The Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency (FIIA) declared on Wednesday that a suspect had been detained following his blackmailing of a doctor in Najaf.
"Detachments of the agency specialized in combating terrorism in Najaf received a distress call from a citizen working as a doctor in a medical institution in Najaf, where her complaint contained that someone blackmailed her and asked for an amount of 25 million Iraqi dinars," reads a statement from FIIA that the Iraqi News Agency (INA) obtained.
In addition, the statement stated that "an intelligence team was formed immediately to investigate and obtain information, and the accused was arrested red-handed after completing all judicial procedures and with a tight ambush."
Noting that "his statements were recorded and referred to the concerned authorities in preparation for his appearance before the court to receive his just punishment," it explained that "the accused after interrogation openly admitted that he blackmailed a doctor and asked for a sum of money of 25 million Iraqi dinars."
